The Teeling Whiskey Distillery in the heart of Dublin’s historic Newmarket has long been a popular visitor attraction on the Irish Whiskey Trail and Dublin Whiskey Trail, having welcomed over a half million visitors since opening in 2015. As part of the Failte Ireland Dublin Surprising Stories Scheme a number of upgrades are being unveiled to enhance the storytelling and overall visitor experience at the Distillery.

A visit to Teeling Whiskey Distillery is a feast for all the senses, with an engaging and educational tour that makes the most of being cleverly interwoven with the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of a hard working distillery. Visitors can now even nose the award winning ‘Teeling Small Batch Whiskey’ straight from the barrel in the Maturation Space.

The storytelling aspect on the ground floor has been updated, recounting the rich history and provenance of Dublin distilling as well as Teeling’s involvement in this over the generations, along with some new delights like the Lego replica of the distillery produced for its 6th birthday and a display area of the range of Teeling Whiskeys released over recent years. In a collaboration with local Dublin street artist Shane Sutton, visitors now follow a street art storyline around the walls of the space.

Visitors can now opt to join a guided tour of the fully operational distillery and get to see a real working whiskey distillery through all aspects of production, while hearing the tour details in their own language, on their own phone through our new international language app. Featured languages on this new language app include French, Spanish, Italian, German, Dutch and Mandarin. Developed by translators and app producers Imagineear, this is a first for an Irish distillery and adds to the existing option of booking a guided tour ‘as gaelige’ with an Irish speaking tour guide.

The scripts for the tours have also been updated and improved and visitors are welcomed with a new video produced by Dublin creative agency Big O, featuring Jack and Stephen Teeling. This video is presented in the upgraded ‘Cocoon’ space to seat 30 people with state of the art AV facilities. This adds to the wide range of spaces within the Distillery available for private hire, creating a hub of activity within the local neighbourhood.

Teeling Whiskey engaged a professional design team led by architects and designer’s Studio | dsq to project manage and deliver this project alongside their own marketing and brand home team. The Teeling Whiskey Distillery was Dublin’s first, new operational distillery in over 125 years when it opened its doors in 2015. It was named ‘Best Visit’ in Ireland at the CIE Awards 2020 and is home to the award-winning Teeling Whiskey brand Teeling Whiskey. Recently Teeling Distillery was awarded the top honour of ‘Sustainable Distillery of the Year’ at Whisky Magazine’s 2022 Icons of Irish Whiskey Awards.

Liz Halpin, Head of Dublin at Fáilte Ireland commented:

“Creating new ways for visitors to enjoy the history, heritage and culture of Dublin will ensure our capital city’s attractions remain on the must-visit list for domestic and international visitors. We know that the modern tourist expects an interactive and accessible experience, therefore improving foreign language provision and innovative storytelling, such as the project completed with Teeling Whiskey Distillery through our Dublin’s Surprising Stories scheme, will be a key selling point for visitors in the years to come.”

Lisa Jameson, Teeling Whiskey Distillery Visitor Centre General Manager commented:

“As we are now in a position where we can operate at full capacity and with the forecast for international visitors looking positive for the year ahead, it is the perfect time to unveil these enhancements to our visitor experience and storytelling at the Distillery.
We wish to thank Failte Ireland for their support in part funding this project under the Dublin Surprising Stories grant scheme. We are very much looking forward to business returning to optimal levels, delivering the very best experience we possibly can to our consumers, trade partners and corporate clients”.
