Walsh Whiskey Writers Tears Copper Pot Marsala Finish is a 3 Pooka Irish Whiskey.Walsh Whiskey have been in touch today to tell us that they have just released a very limited edition of their celebrated Writers’ Tears – Copper Pot whiskey. This rare, super-premium blend of Single Pot Still and Single Malt whiskeys was finished for one year in 5 Marsala wine ‘hogshead’ casks from the Florio winery in Sicily. This will be the thirteenth expression from the Walsh Whiskey Stable of The Irishman and Writers Tears Irish Whiskey Brands.

Copper Pot is the working name given by Walsh Whiskey to Writers Tears expressions from the signature Walsh Whiskey “Champagne Blend of Single Malt and Single Pot Still Irish Whiskeys.

This is the second time that Walsh Whiskey has finished whiskeys in Marsala casks from Florio. In 2017 the company released limited Marsala finish editions of two its’ whiskeys in The Irishman range – Founder’s Reserve (from 9 hogshead casks) and 12 Year Single Malt (from a single hogshead cask).

Bernard Walsh, Founder and Managing Director of Walsh Whiskey said:

“The sweet Marsala effect was very well received when we treated some of The Irishman range to it two years ago so we wanted to afford Writers’ Tears – Copper Pot enthusiasts the same opportunity. We have balanced out the natural sweetness with a 5% stronger alcohol content of 45% ABV. I hope people will enjoy it as much as I do.”

Hogshead casks are approximately 20% larger than the standard whiskey cask size. With evaporation accounting for the ‘Angel’s Share’, just 2,430 bottles of Writers’ Tears Copper Pot Marsala Cask Finish were yielded after 12 months finishing in the hogshead casks.

Four of the five casks have already been assigned with Australia (cask no: 3145), Dublin Airport (cask no: 3147), the Celtic Whiskey Shop in central Dublin (cask no: 3149) and cask no: 3148 assigned for general release in Ireland.

This triple-distilled, natural non-chill filtered, non-peated whiskey is bottled at an ABV of 45%, which is 5% stronger than Writers’ Tears – Copper Pot is usually bottled at.

The R.R.P. for Ireland is €75.
